Frequently asked questions.
What types of data do you collect?
We combine primary research — digital and analog — with existing datasets to build a full picture of how places are used and experienced. This includes:
Footfall and movement patterns, transport mode and mobility data , demographic profiles, community surveys and engagement findings, observational and behavioural insights and environmental and contextual data.
How are your insights used?
Our data supports the full spectrum of urban development—from early policy and planning through to post-construction evaluation. This continuity helps clients track progress, measure impact, and make informed, evidence-based decisions at every stage of a project.
Our insights are used to:
Understand how places are being used—whether existing, temporary, or newly developed
Identify unmet needs or barriers, and uncover opportunities to address them
Set measurable goals that shape project briefs, objectives, and performance indicators
Support funding bids and business cases with robust, human-centred evidence
Engage communities and stakeholders, building trust and buy-in
Evaluate impact over time, including before-and-after assessments of interventions
How do you handle privacy when collecting data?
We take privacy seriously. When conducting surveys or collecting behavioural data, we follow strict ethical guidelines and comply with all relevant data protection regulations.. Our surveys are anonymous unless respondents choose to share identifiable information, and we always explain how data will be used.
What survey techniques do you use?
We use a mix of digital and analog survey methods, grounded in the observational techniques popularised by urban thinkers such as Jan Gehl, William H. Whyte, and Jane Jacobs, to capture rich, accurate data tailored to the specific needs of each project.
Digital techniques include online surveys, sensor-based footfall counts, and digital mapping tools. These allow us to collect large-scale, real-time, and precise data efficiently.
Analog techniques include in-person observations, intercept interviews, and community workshops. These approaches help us gather detailed insights and engage directly with people.
Who do you work with?
We work with local authorities, urban designers, planners, developers, housing providers, transport agencies, and community organisations—anyone involved in shaping better places for people.
Can you work on both small and large-scale projects?
Yes. We work on everything from temporary pilot projects to neighbourhood-level studies to citywide strategies. Our approach is scalable and always tailored to the context and needs of each project.
Can your research be repeated over time or used in different locations?
Yes—our methods follow internationally recognised methods and are designed to be scalable and repeatable. Whether you're tracking change over time in a single location or applying the same approach across multiple sites, we ensure consistency in how data is collected and interpreted.
Where do you work?
We work across a range of urban, suburban, and town settings. If you’re unsure whether your project fits, just get in touch—we’re happy to explore how we can help.
How do we get started?
It’s simple—just contact us. We’ll set up an initial conversation to understand your goals, challenges, and how our insights can support your work.
